Going private to see an endo!

Postby JessicaLea92 » Mon Nov 03, 2014 4:05 pm

Ok so i was diagnosed almost 6 months ago.. after 6 years of being messed about and ignored. Anyway im diagnosed now but my dr won't help me in anyway until i see an endo and the endo wont see me urgently because of my age (my dr pushed for urgent) So i have decided enough is enough and im going private and have an appointment on the 19th of this month witha Dr Lindsay George in cardiff. (I would have to wait another 5 months on the nhs) Im wondering if anyone here has gone private for this. And what do i expect? Will it be another dragged out process? Will it all be done quik? Anything would help. And has anyone else seen Dr Lindsay George?
TIA

Hi - do you mean endocrine specialist? (sorry I'm new to this board and may've missed things) I saw one (privately) in the Summer and it has left me more fed up and with less answers! That said, am assuming Lindsay may be female and mine was a patronising old male doctor. Mainly berated me for not having had kids yet... :-( very fed up. I prepared a list of things I wanted to discuss to make sure I got the most out of it all. He mainly prodded me about a bit (just my torso) to check for any swellings. Looked to see if I had a lot of unwanted hair etc. I gained nothing from the experience bar a large invoice :-( I sincerely hope your experience is better and you get something out of it. I listed 3 objectives of what I wanted out of it (none were met ha ha...) so make sure you try and do the same? be interested to hear how you get on. All the best.

I believe lindsay is a mail dr also. ( i was suprised to) lol oh god that doesn't sound great at all. Ive written a whole essay of sfuff I want solved. and questions i have. Itbwas my dad idea for me to go private as its been going on for years and he's had enough. I was finally diagnosed this year by my gp she has been great but now says she can't treat me until i see the endo.. and the waiting list is taking forever. Im going to ring my gp surgery later today and get a copy of my ultra sound and blood work so i have something to show him so maybe it will speed things up. My dads taking me to the appointment also so wont take no nonsense.. but after all this time niether will i.

it may be ok, don't base it on the experience I had. It just ended up being him asking daft questions on why I may've gained weight (opener - do you drink fruit juice? do you drink Coke?) and then kept going back to fact I haven't had kids yet (I'm 38) and not to leave it too late if I wanted to (don't think I do to be honest...!) which was NOT why I was there. Good to have a chaperone too I suppose. My Mum was going to come but couldn't make it. I have very limited experience of any docs, specialist etc having been lucky to be fit well and healthy all my life so it may also been some of that too, that I wasn't forceful enough of what info/help I needed. I am now just trying to find my own way. Hence joining the forum.

Just an update.. My appointment went amazing.. although he said he couldn't do alot to help me at the start.. he did everything and more than i expected.. I am now on metformin. He is writing a letter to my gp to continue the metformin and to keep my referal on the nhs as im gunna need check ups ect. He also said he's going to write me a letter.. and that if i have any questions or concerns to write to him or ring his secretary and he will email/write me back so i wont have to pay out for another appointment.. so im right on trak finally :)
