bad pain

Does anyone know what i can take for bad period pain that is so bad it had me doubled over, vomiting, have diarrohea and made me hyperventilate so much that I got severe spasm in my hands and couldn't unclench my fists.

I don't know what to take when it gets that bad as paracetamol doesn't help.

That really isn't normal. Have you been to your doc to get prescription painkillers? Diclofenac + paracetamol + codeine would possibly help, but actually I think you need to get this looked into, as it sounds awful. I have endometriosis as well as PCOS and the symptoms you describe sound like that.

Over the counter meds you could take include max strength ibuprofen plus the paracetamol and codeine, which would block the pain more effectively. Paracetamol doesn't really do very much for that type of problem.

Acupuncture, TENS machines and heat can help as well. Hope you feel better v soon xx

I've had a hysteroscopy and it didn't show anything so they said i didn't have endo like the gp thought.

It doesn't feel right when i get like that. This one was the worst i've ever had, it was worse than giving birth to my two children.

I just feel that if i keep going to doctors for things to sort everything out they will get fed up and not take me serious.

Painful periods are not normal, and to be that extreme (and I have had them like that, and I have endometriosis) means yhou need to keep going back to see the doctor until it is taken notice of. If you don't go back, they just assume either you're fine or that it isn't really too bad. Persistence is the key, and if one GP doesn't help you, see another.

It could be that during your hysteroscopy, patches of endo were missed (they can be minute and still cause dreadful pain), or maybe the surgeon isn't an endo specialist.

If you're not ttc, have you though about going on the pill to help make your periods lighter and shorter? There are other things you could try such as reflexology and acupuncture. Chinese herbs may help too. Mefenamic acid (on prescription) can help the periods, take it a few days before they start until the end. I really would leave it though as you don't NEED to be in that amount of pain, as I'm sure you'd agree. If I can help any further, just message me or write on here xx

I am going to try to get an appointment with my gp in the morning. I know it's not normal to be doubled over so I will keep pushing. My husband works away now and again and if he hadn't have been home I would have panicked even more.

The GP won't put me on the pill because my BMI is way too high, she put me on metformin and my periods were light and pain free for the first 3mths then this one came with a vengence. I know this might be a bit too much info but I was passing clots the size of a 10p and quite a bit of lining too. This period only lasted 4 days.

In that case, you could look into either Cerazette progestogen-only pill or the Mirena IUS. Both would minimise periods, flow and (hopefully) pain. They are also ok for PCOS, not as helpful as a combined pill like Yasmin, but not as bad as the Depo-provera injection or the implant. Good luck xx

With my endo, I can get pain everyday, or occasionally, and every period. However, my periods are much better when they are controlled with the pill. I also take my pill back to back for 2-3 packs which helps. I found Cerazette to be good, but I started bleeding for nearly 2 months in the 5th and 6th month, and the pain was unbearable, and I couldn't get on with my life so I changed back to Yasmin. However, loads of women get on really well with that pill, and I do recommend it for what you are going through, because after 6months periods can stop altogether, which, if I'd had the patience, would have been bliss!

Currently I am not in a bad way due to endometriosis, but that's because I recently had a radical treatment of Decapeptyl injections, which have reduced the endo and my symptoms are much improved. You should asked to be referred back to a gynaecologist and discuss these options. The more you insist, the more the doctors have to do!

hmmm that's the thing though I don't get alot pain with every period and i'm not always in pain. It's maybe two or three times a year i get pain where I am doubled up on the floor during the first day or two of my period, sick and diarrheoa etc.

I can't get an appointment until friday.

Glad you are not in a bad way at the moment with endo. The things we have to go through!!!

hi meringoo, finally got a telephone consultation with my gp today. She prescribed me mefenemic acid tablets and codine phosphate tablets to take if the pain gets that bad again.

Thing is she hasn't told me when to take the tablets! Do you know how to take them? Do i only take them if i get pain or before my period starts?

How are you getting on? xx

The Mefenamic acid you can take on the first day of your period, of a couple of days before your period to help with pain and flow.

The codeine you can take a day before to start building up a barrier to the pain, or as soon as you can really. xx
