Hey,

I was just wondering if anyone has any advice for me? I have had problems with my skin since I was 10 and nothing has EVER worked, I have had a lot of different types of pills and lotions. Although my spots now are on my jawline so its not as bad as when I was younger they are big very red and itchy? Any advice on medicines you've tried etc?

Thanks

Hey

Dianette worked fr a bit but made me very emotional and low moods.
Tetracyclin worked for a bit too but I dont think antibiotics for skin problems get to the route because its the hormones that are
triggering the spots.
I was going to try yasmin BC pill as apparently its good for spots that are hormone caused.
I am in the same position as you , nothing seems to really work. :(

People have suggested spiro which is prescribed if you see an endocrinologist so maybe try that?

How long did you take dianette for? With pills it takes 3 months at the very least to begin working (this is to do with the length of time it takes hair follicles to renew, they have a 10-12 week life cycle and once renewed begin to respond differently, hence less oil and acne). More likely it will take 6 months (ie two cycles of renewal), or for some even 9 months. But its unusual not to work at all. Did you give it a good go?

Hmmmm interesting. Have you consulted a dermatologist before? I wonder whether there could be something else going on, you mentioned they are itchy - could it in fact be dermatitis? The more I read the more it seems it is sometimes difficult to tell and people get misdiagnosed. Also there is something called folliculitis which looks like acne but isn't and also requires a different kind of treatment.

I guess you've tried benzoyl peroxide? Works for many people but can also be allergic to it (I am).

I didn't think plain tetracyclin worked at all for me, but various forums seem to think Lymacyclin (another anti biotic in the same family) works well.

And it is also worth thinking of seeing an endocrinologist. They can prescribe cyproterone acetate boosters to go together with dianette to improve its efficacy, or even spironolactone which is another potent anti androgen medication.

Acne.org seems to be a good resource for reviews of everything. There is also accutane as a last resort.

Hi there,

Acne's my number one bugbear when it comes to having PCOS. However I found both Dianette and later Yasmin to be very effective for my skin - Yasmin also made my hair less greasy. But the big drawback (which I didn't know to be a drawback until I stopped taking Yasmin in the summer) was a flat-as-a-pancake libido! I thought that was just the way I was!! (had been on the Pill since 17). Anyway I'm much happier emotionally being off the Pill - but my teenage spots came back in all their glory...

So... two things seem to be working for me in a big way spot-wise - the Neutrogena range in the white/orange/black packaging (especially the face wash/mask product), and my Lumie Clear. I bought a reconditioned one direct from Lumie, mainly because of the 45 day money-back return and the 2 year warranty. I've seen massive improvement in the spots themselves which are much less red and lumpy and disappear quicker, and the acne marks seem to be fading quicker. I'm a convert! Any other questions please just ask :)

Hi
I am 28 and was first diagnosed with PCOS when I was 18. The last ten years I have been problem free. 5 months ago after I stopped regular exercise I started to get big jawline boulder spots. That was lumps all along my jawline on both sides of my face.

I went to the doctor and he gave me benzoyl peroxide which at first burnt like hell but just use tiny amounts and every other night to begin with

I wasn't see any improvement so I began to research what I can do
Naturally to help my skin. So now I

Follow a low carb, low sugar and low diary diet and wow the changes are amazing! After eating healthily for two weeks I got my period that had been absence for many weeks
I work out 4 days a week cardio and weights and this helps break down your insulin levels
I wash my face with Origins deep pore cleanser with SAw Palmetto and Mint. Saw Palmetto is a herbal replacement that I researched that is supposed to be good for PSOC. So great for our skin
Origins also have a toner as well
Then I have found a cream even better then the benzoyl peroxide which is La Roche targeted breakout corrector. It is amazing and doesn't leave your skin red or burning. I now use this most nights instead of the doctors cream. It is a miracle product!!!!!!

I start this on just the 1st jan and improving my diet, exercising and investing in the right skin care range has been that in 18 days I have now just two small spots and people at work and my friends are commenting on how fresh I look.

I can't believe it myself from the boulders and nasty big red angry spots and then the rash I got with the benzoyl peroxide I was miserable and depressed. Change your diet and get moving! It's not about pills and longerterm medication, put the goodness in your body and exercise will breakdown your exercise and in 18 days I'm a changed women!

Also try and cut out wine, coffee and fizzy drinks this was the hardest part for me and drink herbal tea like green or peppermint

I am lucky that I haven't had to go down the meds route but research natural remedies and eat healthy fish, chicken, green vegetables, all kinds of berries, drink tons of water and seriously it helps. It's hard but I cut out all processed food. Chocolate, bread, pasta, biscuits, crisps etc.
It's hard but 100% worth it. I left the house today without make up for the first time
In 7 months!

I have also suffered from this exact type of acne on my jawline and chin. I got it where my skin is really itchy and burning in the evenings and then I got the cysts coming up. Dianette worked well for me in the past with general acne especially on my forehead, but it was not enough this time. I ended up paying privately to see a wonderful dermatologist who prescribed really low dose accutane (so very minimal side effects) and kept me on the Dianette. I am now off the accutane and the itchy jawline oddly enough has returned(only at the end of my dianette break week), however it now never develops into any acne at all! I do use topical hydrocortisone which gets rid of the redness and itching, and when I used to have the cysts it did also reduce the size.
Self diagnosed: 1999
Formally diagnosed after much pressure!: 2005
Current regime: Massive amounts of weight bearing exercise, and controlled diet. Have taken/tried Metformin, Dianette, Yasmin, Marvelon, Accutane. Now on Spearmint, Agnus Castus and low dose Spirinolactone.

Hi
i too have always suffered with spots. I had diannete and yasmin and yasmin was great. But now I am TTC spots are back along with greasy skin, particularly around jawline like you mentioned.
I took roaccutane when I was 16 and another course when i was 18. What do you recommend? I am semi hoping that when my cycles return from taking climid, that spots will ease up. im not sure tho. xx

I've heard that roaccutane has quite major side effects, but i would highly recommend Isotrexin
