GROUP MANCHESTER

Postby Hols969 » Fri Nov 08, 2013 4:13 pm

Just to say we have a new Manchester group now officially set up.

Who are we?
We are a very recently established group. We plan to be an informal group which will meet every couple of months or so for a coffee and a chat, to share our own experiences of dealing with PCOS and to give each other advice and support. As we’re a new group, we’d welcome any suggestions on places to meet and things to discuss, whether they’re related to PCOS or not!

Who is it for?
The Verity Manchester Local Group is a group for anyone who is affected by PCOS and who would like to talk to others in a safe and supportive environment. This could be women who are themselves affected, but partners, friends and family will always be welcome to. We are planning on meeting in Central Manchester as we feel this is probably a ‘meet in the middle’ place for people from all around the Greater Manchester area who may wish to come.

How can I get involved?
1. Join the Facebook group. This is currently a work in progress, so please be patient with us! It’s Verity Manchester Local Group and will be the first point of contact. It’s a private group so anything you share with only be able to be viewed by other group members.
2. Contribute to the Verity Manchester Local Group Discussion Board. This hasn’t had a lot of active traffic recently and we are very keen to start it up again in a purposeful way.
3. Come along to a meeting! Keep an eye on the Facebook group and Discussion Board for information on when and where.

Contact
The Verity Manchester Local Group Leaders are Geraldine Beswick and Tammy Green. Contact them via the Facebook group or Discussion Board.
Geraldine was diagnosed with PCOS in her early twenties. She is currently in the process of trying to change to a low GI diet and welcomes any recipe advice!
Tammy was diagnosed with PCOS in her late teens. She is currently on the rocky road to weight loss (gone low GI), to enable their fertility treatment to begin.

How do I find you on Facebook?
I will be interested in attending a group.
I have been part of a group in Altrincham it's just a small group at one of the girls homes but we haven't been able to meet for a few months for various reasons. Some of the girls may also be interested.

Hi Nat29,

I've finally managing to log back in after forgetting my password and attempting it so many times that I got blocked. Oops!

Yes, join the Facebook group- the more the merrier! And that sounds like a fab idea re: merging with the Altrincham group.

Tammy and I were kind of planning to do something in the New Year, probably January. We're not really sure yet because it would be our first meeting, so we were thinking of keeping it simple and just going to a coffee shop or something.

I've just got back from the Verity conference in London. Did you go? It was SO helpful!

Speak soon x

Does anyone mind a huddersfielder joining? I know there is a leeds and west yorkshire group, but its sort of dead at the moment and its only a little further for me to manchester than it is to the Leeds meets when they ran. Don't worry if not I just thought I'd ask! The conference looked very interesting from the Facebook pics and twitter updates!

Hi I can't get on Facebook with the link above?
I didn't go to the confence as I couldn't get it off work but I went last year and it was fab, really helpful.
My pcos symptoms have settled a lot over the last months but I still like to keep updated and find the support from other pcos sufferers invaluable.
I have recently been in contact with a nutritionist who advised wheat free, low sugar and carb diet-not low GI low carb!
I've managed the wheat free for a few weeks still working on the rest!:)
Hope to get on your Facebook page.

Hi all,

CysterSister90- Of course a Huddersfielder can join! The more, the merrier.
LeaneD-H. We've not decided yet. We were thinking of a weekend, in January, for our first meeting, probably somewhere in Manchester City Centre. Does that sound OK?
Nat29. Try this: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1431752107046873/ Or search 'Verity Manchester'. Or you add me on Facebook (Geraldine Beswick, picture is me wearing a blue dress, sitting on my boyfriend's knee) and then you should be able to see my groups and add yourself that way

While I'm here, two issues people might be able to help me with:

- one, I found out at the conference that we can access talking therapy free through our GP. I've been to see mine and have been referred. Does anyone have any experience of this?
- two, since being back on Microgynon for the past few months, I have started to get crippling migraines each time I have a period. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I have anovulation, so I never have periods really. My specialist told me I needed to go back on the Pill for a few months as I'd built up a thick womb lining and needed to shed it. But it's getting ridiculous- last month I had to go to the doctors wearing sunglasses and ask for him to whisper during my consultation while he prescribed my Migraleve! Aaagghh!

Thank you. I've joined the Facebook group now:)
I was taken off the pill because of migraines as there is risk of stroke! I had aura with mine- like sparkles and dizziness. They won't let me go back on it now. I haven't had a migraine since coming off the pill about 4 years ago.

Verity Manchester ladies, this is a bit of an SOS call! I have been very down, on and off, for the past few months. Last night I had a massive blow out, and cried for two hours. My poor boyfriend was very bewildered, as when he asked me what was wrong, I could only say, "I don't know!"

I started to feel a lot worse after I had an ultrasound scan in August, which revealed that I have lots of follicles on my ovaries. I hadn't previously had this symptom- anovulation was my main problem. So I got very down because, with me ovulating about once a year, this basically now guarantees that I'll need fertility treatment. I know well-meaning people always say, "You never know what will happen" but I don't think false hope helps anyone, and I can't help fixating on it.

I've also recently left a horrible job- the only way I can describe it was workplace bullying and am feeling very fragile in the wake of that, although I'm doing day-to-day supply work, have a job to start after Christmas, and have enough in savings to tide me over.

I also wonder whether it might have anything to do with Microgynon. I was on it for six years, with no problems, then off it for about three. I went on it again around August- the same time as the scan- and have since had issues with exhaustion, weepiness etc. I don't know whether they're connected to the Microgynon, or all the other problems. Have any of you ever experienced problems with Microgynon? From my research, a lot of women have. I'm going to ask my GP to change me to Dianette as I've heard better things about that.

In spite of all this, I've got lots to be happy about- wonderful boyfriend, lovely flat, beautiful niece, relationships with family and friends going great, fulfilling social life. So what the #*#* is wrong with me?! Does anyone have any suggestions/ tips?! x

Hi ladies, I've just had an e-mail from someone who works at a salon in Cheadle, saying that they have links with Verity and would be willing to do a group 50% discount on IPL and other related treatments! I've e-mailed back and asked for more price info etc. I'll let you know x

Hi ladies. Just to let you all know that the first Verity Manchester meet up is not on this Saturday (11th) now but next Saturday (18th) at midday in Manchester city centre. We'll probably go to a Costa or something similar. I've got some info to give out to people re: 50% off treatment for PCOS related issues at a salon in Cheadle to hand out, if that's an incentive to join us! Would be great to meet you all x
