I've just had a quick read over some posts on here - if nobody is organising groups formally at the moment, would anyone be interested in meeting up less formally for a group?

I'm 26, was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16/17 and have been coping with various weight/ depression issues since then. I'd love to meet up with others and have a chat/share highs and lows/ ask advice/ share experiences etc! I don't have any experience of running groups or anything, but if there are enough people up for meeting, we could just give it a go!

Hi Fiona,

Kelly was organising but has been very busy and I know she was looking for someone else to take over the rains for the west Yorkshire side.

Hi! What does being the west yorks rep involve?

I'd be happy to arrange if it just involves finding a suitable date/location and sending a mailing out to a list.

Hi Fiona,
Yes that is pretty much all you would need to do. If you want to find out a bit more, PM me you email address and I can send you some information about local group meet ups via the Verity Volunteers email account.

Setting the date for a Leeds local group meeting

Postby Fifilou » Mon Nov 07, 2011 11:30 am

Hi ladies,

I have confirmed that I am happy to take over as the local group leader for Leeds. I'd like to introduce myself and find out who's interested in coming along to a group, then we can hopefully set a date!

I'm Fiona and I was disagnosed with PCOS in my early teens. Now 26, I find it's still a big deal in my life, particularly in terms of diet. I don't have any training or specialist knowledge, but I have done plenty of reading on the issue! I think it would be great to get a regular group meeting in Leeds, perhaps around 4-6 times a year, as a chance for us all to meet other women with PCOS, offer each other support, share our experiences (good and bad) and exchange knowledge, hints and tips, e.g. on great books we've found on PCOS or tasty low-GI recipes!

I'd like to suggest meeting somewhere informal in central Leeds within the next month or so - I will arrange a venue when we've set a date. Anyone is welcome to come along - I'm thinking this might include people from anywhere in West Yorkshire, York, Sheffield etc. Any evening midweek is generally good for me - do evenings work for others?

Please let me know
*If you'd be interested in coming along
*When suits you - day/evening/weekend
*Where you would like to meet up - e.g. meet in a coffee shop or go for a drink or a cheap meal?
*Any ideas you have, or anything in particular you'd like to cover in the group

Hi Fiona

Firstly let me thank you for taking over and arranging meetings it is very much appreciated.

Yes, I would definitely be interested and Leeds center is only a short train ride. I am generally free most evening except Thursdays but if it is after the 1st December I may struggle as I have my ovarian drilling on that date. But should be back on my feet a week or so later (from past experience).

It would be lovely to meet up with other women who understand the struggles of PCOS as I feel very much alone.

It would be great to come along. I had thought about becoming the group leader myself but having just started a job with shifts felt that it was unfair if people wanted to meet at times that wouldnt suit me. It would be great if we could start some fundraising in our local area for verity. Weekends are obviously best for me but if thats not suitable for anyone else I shall try attend the ones that don't interfere with my shift.

Be great to get these going again :) Welcome aboard Fiona x

Thanks ladies and sorry I had to step down as group leader. I will certainly try to come along to any arranged meetings though. It has always been very informal more of a chat with ladies who have things in common :)

Hi Mandie! Hi CysterSister,

I thought I'd leave this a little while to see the level of interest. Would you both be interested in setting a date for a meeting before Christmas, or would you rather leave it til after Christmas? Because it's getting nearer to Christmas, I have things booked in every weekend at the moment, but I can do almost any weeknight, from 7.30pm onwards. Are there any weeknights that would suit you both?

Also, are you on facebook and would you be interested in joining a private Leeds PCOS/Verity group if I created one? I'm thinking it might be another useful way of keeping in touch!

Facebook group sounds like a great idea, I belong to another one and its a great way of us keeping in touch. Unfortunately I am going to have to turn down weeknight meetings, especially if they are in Leeds as I work shifts which means im either working at 7, getting ready to go to work for nights or just getting in from work and wanting to go to bed as im awake early the next morning.

Feel free to meet up without me just weeknights are a no can do unless I get a day off which isnt easy at short notice.

Facebook group sounds good as it also notifies you when you messages etc as you can miss the posts on here sometimes.

It may be worth PM everyone on the Leeds board with the group details as they may have stopped looking at this thread. I can do it if you set up the FB group.

As I said before I have my OD on 1st but most weekdays at night and weekends I am sure with a bit of notice I can make it.
