tired - PCOS related?

Postby pinkhales » Thu Jun 30, 2005 7:45 am

hiya,

I was just wondering whether anyone knows if being tired is a related symptom of PCOS.

I have been diagnosed with PCOS now for about 6 months and have always needed 8hrs+ sleep but the last couple of months regardless of the amount of sleep I get I am still always tired though it does not affect general day to day things.

Does anyone think I should mention it to my doctor when I go or should I just accept as 'normal'

Many thanks
Hales

Tired

Hi Hales
I think tiredness can be related to PCOS. I've been diagnosed for about six years now and about two years ago I went through a really bad phase with it. One the the problems I had was with exhuastion - I could barely drag myself out of bed in the mornings to go to work, then I'd have to go back to bed as soon as I got back to the house. At weekends I'd have to sleep for a few hours in the afternoon and if I did anything strenuous I'd fall asleep straight afterwards. It's a kind of tiredness like I had never felt before - I'd get times when it felt like it almost hurt if I couldn't go to sleep right there and then. When I went to see my GP she wasted no time in referring me to a specialist - so I would definitely recommend discussing it with your docotor!
I hope you start to feel better soon.

I can hear what your saying! :? Although I am not defo PCOS at the moment, just waiting on a scan to confirm it etc... Tierdness is a really downer for me and over the past couple of months I have been really fully exhausted. This along with the depression was want prompted me to go to my GP!

I get up for work, but I feel so tierd I want to go to sleep and I certainly do not want to be working! I get home and I head for the couch to grab 40 mins just to recharge my batteries!

I am hoping the gym + exercise and GI diet my start to improve things. If not then I don't know where to go!

Hi pinkhales,

I think that it is, for me anyway.

Sassymoo, I know exactly what you mean, the way yuo described it.

I went from being very lively, loving to do fun stuff and in the past year and half have changed to a absolutely boring, tired all the time person.

Im not as bad as I was a few months back. Just after I was diagnosed I was exhausted all the time. Had to drag myself out of bed, cried most of the time cos I was so tired, fell asleep if sat still for any amount of time (once whilst typing at the computer!).

Anyway I still get the odd day were I cannnot get out of bed no matter what I do - It makes me feel lazy and really down.

I did mention it to my doc but they didnt seem bothered. Said my blood test were ok (thyroid i think is the sleppy one - sorry if wrong) and thats it. Think gonna mention it next time go as I think Im getting a bit worse.

But yes, mention it to your GP, they may be able to help sort it.

hi, i also went through the same thing. felt tired all the time and wanting to sleep, couldn't get out of bed and anything i did do would wear me out no matter how small. however i also had quite bad depression at the time so maybe that didn't help. k
