Alcohol

Postby wrigglepup » Sat Oct 04, 2014 8:12 pm

Hello all, this is the first time for me on the forum, l was diagnosed with pcos six years ago and put it to the back of my mind until about three week ago when I suddenly realised that I am always waiting to Squeeze into that pair of jeans again, so decided it was time to grab this thing by the horns, face facts that I must change my diet and so on.
I also have stopped drinking alcohol, l was drinking every weekend and mixing spirits with fizzy pop. The thing is my friends are merry but l feel nothing, if I'm lucky I may feel tipsy for about ten minutes, but mostly sleepy and struggle to enjoy the evening. The next day l often feel rough.
I was wondering wether this is a common problem for pcos sufferers or just me being a lightweight?

Hello... yes this sounds familiar. I have fallen asleep or dozed off on nights out/in that involve alcohol! slightly different to you I would feel tipsy though. I think it may be connected to the insulin resistance part of PCOS and obviously alcohol is full of sugar so it could be all that sugar just makes you want to sleep! I want to stop drinking but my busy social life has got in the way of that...I really must though as I know its full of rubbish and is one of the bad things left in my otherwise clean diet!

Not just me!!
have told my friends and now don't drink much at all, feel lots better and happy cause have broken the drink thing cause its the weekend! But I understand how awkward socialising is with alcohol.
Shock, horror! They were saying on tv that a drink can was like having a doughnut!
Don't think I I'll ever drink again! He! He! X

I know...I'm stupid as I check ingredients/nutrients on EVERYTHING and cook most meals from scratch to avoid sugar/fat/salt - yet I can't seem to apply the same logic to alcohol. If I cut that out or cut down I am sure I would see the benefits... but a stressful lifestyle and also the revelation of having PCOS can't seem to stop me unwinding with a drink...or 4! I avoid it in the week though.

Think I should have drunk more water!
It crazes me that my body behaves like this, my mates are all nice and slim, they drink and eat whatever they like!
