Bleeding after MC

Postby hope07 » Wed Apr 22, 2009 5:46 pm

Hi everyone- I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread about bleeding after MC, as some ladies don't know what to exspect, and information on the subject is so poor.

Also with my last MC the bleeding has been so different from the others I've had a seek medical advice myself.

This time MC at 4 weeks- I've had one day of heavy red bleeding and 12 days of brown spotting- so 13 days of bleeding in total- (still not quite finished now)
Previously I've bleed for about a week.

I hope this thread helps anyone going through this heartbreaking exsperience- Hope X

Hi Hope, yes I agree it is a good idea for this thread. MC is such a taboo subject and information is poor like you said.

I know I had the shock of my life when I had my 1st mc as I totally didn't know what to expect. I was almost hysterical, alone in our bathroom when at it's worst. The bleeding was very heavy along with quite bad cramps. The heavy bleeding lasted 7-8 days.

This time it was totally different from the word go. For a start I think I was more mentally prepared for what lay ahead. Because I had a mmc, I chose to take medication to mimic a natural mc and then went into hospital 2 days later to pass everything there. I only bled heavy for the day I was in and only had cramping for approx 3hrs (but think that was down to the pessaries they were inserting to dilate the cervix), then it was more of a normal flow for the remainder of the week which then tapered off to brown spotting for nearly 2 weeks. This worried me more in case I hadn't passed everything, but have recently been given the all clear.

I really felt alone though during the 1st mc. I couldn't ask anyone any questions about it or confide in anyone and because it was such a shock, I thought I would never get over it...well not get over it, iykwim. I think going into hospital made it easier for me this time because it all happened there with nurses around and I could ask them anything and they were so lovely.

I have to say that verity has been a godsend to me. The ladies on this board are amazing and definitely helped me through this time. It is great just to be able to come on here and be able to vent, ask questions and share support.

Love to all xxx

With my first MC the bleeding was just like a really heavy af and i'm not sure how long it lasted. This time it was totally different. I bleed so heavy on the first day(TMI alert) it was running down my leg. They did something in the hospital which helped calm it down a bit but I did pass out when I got home which they said can be a nervous reaction when you pass very large clots which I did a couple of times and I found really distrubing. It then was just normal heavy for about 3 days then went down to medium and then a couple of days spotting at the end, all in all 10days.

If you bleed for more than 2weeks I was told to contact my doctor.

I hope this hasn't upset anyone who reads.

Hi everyone,

It has been 2 and a half weeks since my D&C and I am still bleeding. It is only light, too much for a panty liner though. I really wish it would go away now. How much longer can I expect this to carry on?

Saz/ littleloy- I would say get check out by GP if more than 2 weeks as it could be impacting your iron levels etc .... If you had a D&C I think they would have taken most of the lining with ( if that makes sense)
Metformin, clomid and OD- no response

Hiya x
I started mc last Friday I bleed heavy for 3 days and on n off since. On the day I mc the hospital wanted bloods done a few days after which showed my levels wernt dropping as much, retested again on Thursday, got a phonecall yesterday my levels had increased a lot!! Went for a scan the same day to find out I have a molar pregnancy, the scan showed an enlarged uterus with what i can only describe what looked a bunch of grapes.I now have to ho in on Monday for a d&c. The doctors said even after this the levels cud still be raised for a long time, some women take months for the levels to stop back to normal. It's a very rare condition. I'm bleeding on n off hut am worried and scared of what's going to happen Monday. Has anyone gone through this or know someone who has. It's awful we have to go through this x

Hi joy x
Again honey I'm so sorry you are having to go through this!! When I went in for mine I wasn't allowed to eat from 12am the night before or drink from 6am. I had a general anaesthetic and an hour before I had a pessary to soften my cervix. I went down and once I'd been put to sleep obviously I new nothing.. Once awake they made made me comfortable with morfin. I would have gone home the same day but long story and got put to sleep again as they thought I was internally bleeding. I haven't had much pain even the next day it's more emotional pain. I'm assuming your procedure will be exactly the same although you had a molar pregnancy (which I've not really heard of before?) .

I really hope this has helped honey? I'm here if you need to talk honey and I really hope it goes ok on Monday honey ((((hugs)))) xxxx

Thankyou sazwel that's really helped. A molar pregnancy is a chromosome defect either wen there is a problem with the egg and sperm or double sperm catches the egg. The embryo cannot survive but the placenta can keep growing making hcg levels very high.after the remains are removed they are tested to confirm. U have to have bloods done for weeks/months after as if any piece is left it continues to grow so ttc is a no no. My body thinks I'm pregnant, sore boobs, sicky etc but the only thing I'm carrying is Luke stem cells now and bleeding on n off x
