painful 'dimple' in my lower spine

Postby laura.m » Sat Jan 07, 2012 7:04 pm

Hi guys

Just out of interest, would anyone happen to know why the hell I have a dimple hole thing in my lower back? It's quite painful and I can't lie flat without it hurting in that area. Also hurts when I swim. I know it's a long shot but I was hoping someone might shed some light on it?? Thanks.

I've no idea what it looks like, but there is something called a "pineal cyst" (actually may have the name totally wrong!) which causes pain and basically a build-up of fluid in that area that has to be removed surgically. I know two people who have had it. I'd pop to your doctors if I were you (unless anyone else comes along who knows what they are talking about!!)

you might be thinking of a pilonidal cyst or sinus (the pineal gland is in the brain)? but these usually form in the natal cleft, where your bum cheeks meet, very low in your back.
either way, you should definately get it checked out by your GP, just to be sure.

Georgie - haha - yes that's what I meant. I knew pineal was the wrong word! The other one I was thinking of was "perineal" but know that's wrong too!!

The first thing that came to mind was a sacral dimple? :?:

Hi sephs

I thought that too, but there's only one and it's right in the middle of my lower back. I went to the doctors and she fobbed me off with it being muscle ache from not sitting properly and being overweight.. I'm moving in a week or so so I'm going to wait until that's over with and find a doctor who will take me seriously :) thanks for your comment xx
