First BFP but worried..

Postby HR313 » Wed Aug 10, 2016 9:56 am

I recently discovered I am pregnant (6 days ago), which was a huge shock as we weren't trying (always seems to be the case!). I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 14, which was around 12 years ago now. I visited my GP in February time regarding starting a family within the next 18-24 months, to which she didn't think there would be an issue conceiving as I have regular cycles (32-34 days). However, I am now filled with worry as this is a much wanted baby but concerned that my hcg/progesterone levels might be low. When I spoke to receptionist at the GP surgery on the phone she checked and said that I wouldn't need to see a GP. Not sure if I'm worrying unnecessarily?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated x

There is no increased risk of miscarriage due to pcos so try not to worry too much - congratulations btw

Congratulations! And if she said you didn't need to see your GP about the results, I would say that may mean they are normal!

I haven't had my bloods checked that's the thing that has worried me the most... I don't know what my hcg or progesterone levels are. When I explained I had PCOS over the phone they didn't seem that bothered! Hearing what other women with PCOS have gone through it's a major concern - would it be worth switching GP surgeries?

Sadly, I think sometimes things just don't work out, like Holly says I don't think it is anything linked to pcos, just people generally don't seem to talk about issues in public (unlike on a forum). My GP did nothing different. Was told to book a midwife appt when I was 8 weeks xxx

I only had mine checked at 10 weeks when they thought I was having a miscarriage which was a ruptured blood vessel, they would only check the levels if there is a reason to check it or you are bleeding (which is actually pretty common in early pregnancy) so their is no reason why they would check as pcos does not increase the risk of a miscarriage so try and relax, you will get loads of twangs early on that feel like period pain but it's just bean settling in.

Thank you for all the reassurance ladies, I'm finally beginning to feel more relaxed... What will be will be. In the meantime I'm just trying to stay positive for now and looking forward to my MW appt in a few weeks time! x
