Jaffa...Congratulation on safe arrival of your daughter. Wonderful news. Hope your feeling ok? Are u still in hospital?

Strange us 3 all ended up with c sections in the end.

Amber..your c sec sounded horrendous having to be completely out for the count, what happened to you for that to happen? Picture of Helena is lovely. I hope you are getting on well.

Edwards has had a rough start so far, not sure if mentioned but he had unstable blood sugars levels at birth which took a while to sort out, he been poorly with bronchiolitis this week, and he is just getting over an eye infection too which was last week so we have had something every week so far out if hid 3!. Other rhan all that we are getting on well but looking forward to him being better.

Congratulations Jaffa and well done! The pic of Jovie nearly made me cry just now when I saw it - she is beautiful and now I'm a little scared as my due date is 15th Feb and if this one were to come early like Freya, he or she would be here in less than a week (I am 37 weeks on Sunday).

Amber - hope you and Helaina (and the cat!) are doing well.

great name choices both of you - I am still really struggling to choose a girl's name so perhaps it is a boy afterall.

We had a scan to check the placenta and thankfully it has moved up so I don't need a c-section but they did say the amniotic fluid was at the high end of normal but cannot see a reason why so another scan booked for 38+5 days (bit late in my opinion!)
Other than that I feel good, still going to the gym and doing lots of walking but have slowed down a lot. When I saw midwife 2wks ago baby was 3/5 engaged but not sure whether that means much to be honest...but my bump definitely looks smaller and I am feeling irritable and very similar to how I was in the weeks leading up to Freya's birth.

This is all very exciting - who is next to pop, just me? x

fmw - glad to hear that the placenta has moved up. 3/5 engaged is a good thing but it doesn't have any indication as to when you will go into labour. With the baby moving down your bump will look smaller.

Blossom - Sorry to hear that Edward has had a rough start. I hope he gets better soon. How are you feeling after your c-section? In answer to your question, I went in for induction and had the pessary to try and start the labour. For most women this would take 24 hours but for me it worked almost instantly. This may have been because my body was about to go into labour naturally and every thing went high speed. My contractions started full on at 7 minute intervals and quickly got closer and closer together. It really caught me out so I didn't have time to prepare myself mentally and catch my breath fully between contractions. The contractions where also affecting the baby's heart rate so I had to be rushed up to the delivery suite. They broke my waters only to find it full of meconium which showed the baby was in distress. I was only 2cm dilated and there was no time to give me an epidural so the only option was to go for general anaesthetic as the baby's life was at risk. Overall my labour time was really quick, under 8 hours from start of induction until birth. I also lost a over a litre of blood in the operation which would have scared the life out of me if I had been conscious! Anyhow all worked out okay in the end and my infection has now cleared up.

Jaffa - I am guessing you must be out of hospital now and busy on the feeding frenzy.

Sorry I disappeared everyone. Thank you for the kind words! We only got out of hospital yesterday (Saturday) as she was being tested for lots of things including jaundice, and we had to prove we could feed her enough and keep her temperature level since she is so tiny. I will write properly when im a bit more with it. I am still very sore indeed. Thanks girls for everything it means a lot to have your support. Xx

HI Jaffa - We had the temperature checks too due to size. Once you get through the first couple of weeks of so things settle down. The feeding does take up alot of time too, especially when they need to make up due to a small size. Make the most of any support you have as you need to rest after a c-section.

On another note, has anyone else started getting really dry skin since the birth? My back in particular is really itchy and the skin is now flaking off. I hope this is only temporary.

Hi everyone thanks again for the lovely comments. I hope the new mums are doing well and healing. Jovie was actually 4lb 11oz once I read my notes, not sure where the 6oz came from! At ten days old yesterday she is back to birth weight so we are thrilled - all that hard work has paid off. She has actually grown out of the smallest baby grows we had (tesco tiny baby seem smaller than any other shop FYI) still fitting in most other brands of tiny size but definitely growing.

Blossom I hope you have managed a week without any illness! Sounds like a stressful beginning to life.

Fmw any signs of an early baby? Hope you are managing to relax. Sounds like you are still pretty active, that's great! Good luck with everything I'll be looking out for your news.

Amber your birth story sounds very traumatic, I hope you are feeling better and thank goodness Helaina came out safe and sound. I am also feeling very dry and scaly! I have been slapping on moisturiser like a fiend. I wonder why that is?

Love to all mums,mums-to-be, and babies xx

Hi all, hope everyone is okay and just running around after their new arrivals!

Jaffa - Glad to hear that Jovie was back to her birth weight by ten days, Helaina took a bit longer but she is really making up for that now. She too has now grown out of the smallest clothes we had.

Helaina is keeping me really busy. She is regulary cluster feeding and seems to be constantly hungry. It is making it hard to get out and do anything but I really feel that I need to get out of the house and make contact with adults! Going to try my best to make a group at the local children's centre on Friday. It doesn't start till 1pm so hopefully will be able to make it with my current schedule. The broken nights of sleep are getting to me now so really looking forward to the nights where she sleeps more. She is now 1 month old so we must be half way there by now.

We must be due some more babies soon. Who is due February?

Hello

I hope people are getting some sleep, I'm experiencing the wake up after only an hour every single time baby. It's a nightmare, I'm exhausted. I'm going to get her weighed tomorrow and hope that makes me happy! Did you get out of the house amber? I have been out a couple of times for lunch/coffees. One time I got to my friends and I had had a massive milk leakage right round to my armpits that was fun. How embarrassing!! I had pads on too! I learnt to always take a spare top...

Hope you are all ok xx

Hi Jaffa

It sounds like she is doing her best to catch up on her growth and she only has a tiny stomach. Are you feeding her all yourself or are you getting any help? I know the ideal is to exclusively breast feed but sometimes you need to make exceptions to keep your sanity. Are you able to get DH to do a couple of feeds with a bottle in the night so that you can sleep through? I have found that when Helaina goes through a feeding spurt having DH give a bottle feed has really helped otherwise I think I would have gone crazy by now. She still is quite happy to go back to breast feeding with me afterwards. You are looking at 6 to 8 weeks after birth before the lengths of sleep between feeds get longer so it may be an option for you.

afm - Helaina is gaining weight fast now and was 7lb 11oz last Monday. Next weigh in will be a week tomorrow. She is now 6 weeks so hoping that I will soon see signs of a more predictable routine and longer sleep periods at night. Saying that, last wednesday and thursday nights she went through a feeding spurt and then started bringing it up. Thankfully that has calmed down now as I was in a really frazzled state.

hope everyone else is getting on okay

Hello amber. I'm pleased she is gaining weight that's great! I hope the same for us later today. We do bottle feed when she gets frenzied so normally 2 or 3 times a day. We used to do a bottle top up after every session but it felt silly taking her off the breast to force a bottle in once we could see that she was definitely getting bigger. So DH does those, normally at breakfast and last thing at night. And I definitely take myself off for a good nap while that's going on! I do all the night feeds as DH needs to sleep, I want him to be safe to drive to work and he has to climb ladders and use tools etc safely so I really need him to have slept! That's fine though as he brings me breakfast and cooks dinner so it's a good compromise.

Here's hoping our little ones get bigger tummies soon and sleep a little more!! Frazzled mummies are not what we want!

Hi Jaffa

That sounds a bit like what we are doing. DH sometimes does a night feed at the weekend but during the week it is important he sleeps through the night as it is not safe to drive tired. It is 7 weeks on Saturday so hoping the sleeping between feeds is going to get longer soon. One woman at my local children's centre had her baby do a 6 hour + sleep at 7 weeks so fingers crossed it is not far off. My C-section wound has healed really well and doesn't hurt anymore. Still looks horrible but apparently the scar will fade. I am now planning to get my exercise routine back to where it was so practicing my abdominal healing exercises so I can move on to the core body strengthening exercises.

I am going to try and get out to another children centres group tomorrow morning. It starts at 10am so I might make it depending on how well tonight goes!

Hi all
Just a very quick one to say I gave birth to another girl - Maeve - this morning at 3:36am 8 days overdue after second membrane sweep.
We are both doing very well and got home an hour ago. So relieved and happy to finally meet her and Freya adores her too.
Hope you're all getting on ok
