Shiny,

She will get used to not being able to see you very quickly! Christopher is still in a Besafe Izi Combi and has never forwarded faced and loves waving to buses. He had a 5 minute waving session (and blue lights flashed back at him!) with a fire engine on our way back from holiday on Thursday. I now don't want to turn him forward facing when number 3 arrives (even though he will be 4!)

I think we are going to try to go to the In Car Safety Centre on a weekday!

Freya was rear-facing until she was 2 1/2 and I tried VERY VERY hard to convince ALL my mummy & daddy friends to keep their kids rear-facing for as long as possible and not ONE of them kept their kids rear-facing past 20lbs!
I don't think carseat safety is talked about enough- should be talked about in antenatal classes and by HV's.

If I ever have another baby they will be rear-facing till 4 or 5. But at the time I didn't know you could get a suitable carseat for under £250! Now I know better!

I have a question about stage 2-3 seats. Freya is FF in her Britax first class plus and will need to go up a stage in the next 12 months and I want a seat that uses a 5 point harness for as long as possible- from what I can find online as soon as they reach a certain weight they ALL use the seatbelt- I REALLY REALLY don't like the idea of that anywhere in the near future!
I will have to buy 2 so they can't be mega bucks!
Anyone got a reccomendation for me?

The only seat that forward faces with a 5 point harness beyond 18kg is the Britax Two Way Elite which rear faces and forward faces with a 5 point harness up to 25kg. It can be used from 9kg. It costs £196 from the In Car Safety Centre - this is the only place in the UK that sells it. If you were considering buying that as a group 2 seat you could buy it to use from now?

Good thinking! I am going to have to go back this week (at least it isn't far for us!) and get the head rest pad thing. The man told us he didn't think we needed it but Lorna has fallen asleep in the seat 3 times now and each time her head has lolled really uncomfortably and she has woken up crying with (we assume) a sore neck.

The headrest is really good, Shiny, Rowan seems really really comfortable with it and we haven't had any head rolling. Hope it helps!

Just wanted to pop in and say a few weeks on DD is like she was never forward facing at all and is perfectly happy in her ERF one. Every time she gets in she says "new car seat" in an excited voice :D I find it much easier to get her in and out and we both feel a lot happier having her in this seat.

I am so glad that Lorna and you are happy with her new seat.

I am planning a trip to the In Car safety centre with DH in March as there is only so long Emily can stay in her infant carrier! We will need to work out how we can jigsaw 3 seats in which will be interesting!

We need to try to jigsaw too and are going down next week, although the more I look at our backseat the more impossible I think it is going to be :(

Rach,

Is there no way you can switch the front airbag off? That is hopefully going to be the thing that makes it possible for us as I have checked and there is a switch and you can just switch it off. So we are going to get a two way elite rear facing in the front then 2 more seats in the back. I think DH and I will be going down one day in March as I can only keep putting Emily in her infant carrier for a little while longer as her head is nearly at the top (although to be fair to her she doesn't complain about being cramped).

The other possibility is how heavy are Dante and Alanis - are highback boosters from 15kg a possibility for either of them. Out for us though as Christopher is 12.5kg.

Nope, no switch for airbag in ours and if there is no switch the dealers won't/can't disable them for you either.

I had them weighed about 9 weeks ago and think they were about 14.5kg so we aren't far off them being heavy enough for high back boosters, but TBH I think I would rather the original plan of keeping them in their Tobis and having one in the front so at least they can stay in a five point harness. I just feel like they are too little to only be using an adult seatbelt and a booster and also a decent high back booster is probably no smaller in size than the Tobi anyway, but am sure they will help us with it all when we go down next week.

Looked at Emily today in her infant carrier and her head is right at the top now so we need to get her a new seat. DH and I are now going to the in car safety centre on Friday 24th Feb whilst the kids are in nursery so we will have time to think whilst they try seats without 2 little people! As the lady at ICSC said to us they normally say to bring children to try them in the seat but as we are probably going to need to try a multitude of combinations it is going to be whatever will fit. We will only buy 1 seat now and then mail order the other nearer to September.

43cm I think! I feel your stress as I think DH will kill me if he has to sell his car and buy (in his words) "a bus". To be honest though width is all a bit irrelevant as it is more a question of it you can get them to jigsaw together iykwim. The TWE is right on the seat but then if you use an infant carrier on a base next to it then that will be higher up at the widest point, as probably will be the widest point on one of your Tobis. Why or why do they not make cars that you get 3 carseats in!!!!! 3 in the back is an impossibility for us so it is going to be one in the front (the TWE) then 2 in the back but I am just hoping that DH doesn't kick up a fuss that he can't see out of his wing mirror with the TWE in the front. He's already fussing about where the passenger seat will need to be positioned as he likes it really far back to give him a good view out.

We are going down for 11am, so dropping the kids at nursery then heading off so we will no doubt cross somewhere on the M1.
