It's been a long time since I've actually posted anything but really felt I needed some support this time.
Feel really annoyed - went to see my consultant on Friday. I kind of knew what to expect as we have tried pretty much everything and the only thing remaining is IVF. However I have to get my BMI under 30 to qualify.
When I got there, he wasn't in, it was a registrar on rotation there under supervision of another consultant. Fair enough I have no problem with that whatsoever, I know they have to all learn.
What I do have a problem with however is being spoken to in a patronising manner by this doctor while she proceeded to say to me "you need to lose weight...it's not difficult with a little bit of exercise and healthy eating" I replied that I do go to the gym and try to eat healthily but I find it hard when I get to around 20lbs lost and then seem to plateau which then makes me depressed and lose motivation. She completely ignored what I had said and repeated that it was not difficult to lose weight and that she could lost weight with diet and exercise so I should be able to as well. She was very slim.
She told me I should try e.g the oxford diet where it's complete meal replacement shakes - which I don't agree with because I feel the minute you come off them you gain weight...I've seen it happen to people I know.
I asked the doctor if she had pcos? She said she did not, so I asked her why she thought losing weight with pcos was as easy as if you didn't have it. She ignored me and told me her husband is a GP and he recommends the oxford diet to patients.
I thought I was overreacting but my mother in law came with me because hubby was at work, and when we came out of the department with me on the verge of tears, before I even said anything she said that she didn't feel that doctor listened to a word I had said and thought she needed to work on her bedside manner.
Sorry for the really long post ladies....just needed to rant about it somewhere people know how hard it is! xxx
