Temping without menstruation plus hormonal spots

Postby harderwhenyouknow » Sun Dec 02, 2012 10:51 am

I was diagnosed with PCO at 15 due to secondary amenorrhea and slight acne, never really had the weight issue but have always had whisker hairs on my chin. I never menstruate unless I'm on the pill or have the coil in situ.
My husband and I were about to start clomid when we moved to a new area and we have now been informed we won't be offered clomid as my husbands SA results aren't good enough, so were now on a year wait until we have lived in the area for 12 months and can be considered for IVF.
Anger, frustration, upset are just some of the emotions I have about this decision but I have decided to remain as positive as possible in the hope I can talk my body into ovulating through positive thinking!
I've started us both on vitamins, we both eat really healthily anyway and go to the gym 3-4 times a week. Neither of us smoke and I don't drink and my husband has now stopped the occasional beer he used to have.
I've bought a basal thermometer which came with a free chart only the chart wants me to put which day of the cycle I am on which leaves me stuck.
Does anyone have any ideas how I temp and chart it when I don't have a cycle?
I've also found that I have a really quite severe bout of hormonal spots! Only on my chin and I only used to get these when I was about to have a withdrawal bleed from the pill! So as much as it looks awful, I am kind of pleased as I'm looking at them as a possible positive that I'm going to menstruate.
Any advice re temping without a menstrual cycle would be fantastic!!!

My best suggestion would be to start using fertility friend to chart on, and just start it tomorrow. It needs a good number of temperatures in there to do it's analysis, but it'll get the hang of your cycle eventually, particularly if you can chart other signs as well as bbt (there are tutorials on the site to show you how to do all this). While you're both on this waiting list, might be worth requesting a repeat SA for hubbie as their results can change for so many reasons, and really, you only need one (just the other 20 million to point it in the right direction!).

It's not ideal to start temping mid cycle but it's quite possible. I started temping on about day 50 of a 90ish day cycle. I initally just tried mapping the temps on an excel spreadsheet but then downloaded the fertility friends app to my phone and used that. You need to take your temp at the same time each morning (as much as possible), before you get out of bed or have a drink and after a block of at least 4 hrs sleep (I think). Your temp needs to be to 2 decimal places. On fertility friends you can also chart other symptoms like cervical mucus, cervical position, ovulation sticks etc... They send you tutorial emails for a couple of weeks too so you can learn the basics.
Through temping I discovered that I do ovulate but not until around day 22-24 so whenever I had day 21 tests they showed I didn't ovulate because they were done at the wrong time but unfortunately since i have blocked tubes I still had to have IVF to get where I am today.
There are some herbal/ over the counter meds you could try to help you ovulate like agnus castus or soy. You can find out more about them on some of the other threads on here. basically you take them at the start of your cycle for a few days or in some cases up till ovulation time and they can help to balance out your hormones and help you ovulate. If you have a naturopath near you it could well be worth your while having an appt with them. Acupuncture worked for me to bring my cycles down from 42 days to 32, reflexology can also be used but I would make sure your therapist specialises in fertility.
There are some other things your OH could do to try and improve his SA such as no hot baths, no cycling, no tight pants/trousers, not using a lap top on his lap, not carrying a mobile in his pockets, etc... Hopefully if he can ipmrove things there you won't need to go down the IVF route.
As far as your spots go I can totally sympathise. I always used to get them a few days before AF. I found that Boots blemish serum really works for me, it's quite expensive but a little goes a long way so a £17 bottle lasts nearly 6 months.
good luck lovely xxx

Thank you both of you.
I have the fertility friend app which I will start in the morning.
We've done quite a bit of reading and will do everything we can to improve his SA.
I'm going to push to get something done about attempting to get me ovulating, even if it means I have to go private.
And I will also be pushing for him to have a repeat SA in 6 months. We're going to move again in 3 months and will be just outside the area we have moved to so they may well want to do it all over again.
Thanks again for your advice ladies! Xxx

My friend is a doctor, which helps women with menstruation disorders and PCOS. He knows that this is very bad disease for girls and trys all his best to help. Last week he told me about the Inofem - new medicine in uk, which has a good substances and also is the cheapest one medicine. He really was recomending that. As I also seacherd the web, this one contains myo-inositol (2000 mg) and folic acid (200 µg), which are the best for this two. :)
