Verity Discussion Board - House Rules

Verity's aim is to provide a space for peer support, discussion and information exchange.

The following set of rules foster an environment of shared values, mutual respect and trust, and your use of the Discussion Board implies your agreement to these House Rules. The Discussion Board is a service provided at the discretion of Verity at a cost to the charity, and Verity therefore reserves the right to change these House Rules at any time, without prior notice.

Please remember at all times that Verity is a charity run entirely by volunteers. Therefore there may be a delay in responding to enquiries or comments, and in moderating the Discussion Board. Verity exists to support women with PCOS, and there would be no Discussion Board without the very valuable time and dedication of these volunteers (including Verity’s Board of Trustees and Discussion Board Moderators).

Verity reserves the right to implement the points set out below without warning, and without discussion with individuals posting on the Discussion Board.

1. You may find that legitimate threads which have been posted in the wrong topic will be moved by the moderators to a more appropriate location. Take care to start a thread in the appropriate topic.

2. The Discussion Board administrator/moderators will not delete posts or threads on demand,* but will consider requests to temporarily quarantine or delete threads which have degenerated for some reason.

3. Verity reserves the right to remove any postings which do not adhere to the guidelines set out in this policy, or to take further action if required (see below)

4. You are responsible for any content you post. Where it relates to an existing discussion topic or article, you should ensure that it is relevant and likely to prove useful to other Discussion Board members

5. Please keep the content of discussions on the topic of PCOS and related issues. The discussion boards are accessible to everyone (this is not an area for Verity members only), and even if you start a thread, it will be open to anyone who wishes to post on it. If you do not wish to converse with other users in this way, we suggest that you exchange email addresses with those that you do and use an alternative forum

6. Please be polite and respectful towards other members of the Verity community, and remember that others may not always share your point of view. Disruptive, offensive or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated. PCOS is a sensitive topic, and Verity reserves the right to take action if requested to do so by a community member

7. You must be respectful of other people’s feelings and differing values. Being someone who ‘speaks your mind’ does not excuse a lack of consideration for others. We must all remember that communicating online is a somewhat impersonal medium, and your tone and body language will be lost, making the real meaning of your post open to misinterpretation. Your conversational style may seem ‘open and up front’ to you, but it might appear intimidating and offensive to others. Any such postings will be removed

8. Please consider other users at all times when using the Discussion Board. Behaviour that deters other members from engaging with the community is considered offensive. Allow other members to contribute and do not dominate any discussions. Any complaints about members demonstrating such behaviour will be taken seriously

9. Verity does not represent or endorse the accuracy or reliability of any advice, opinion, statement or other information displayed, uploaded or distributed through the Verity Discussion Board. In using the Discussion Board you acknowledge that any reliance on any such opinion, advice, statement or information shall be at your own risk

10. You are responsible for copyright infringement in your messages. Remember that copyright infringement is a form of theft and is punishable as such. Please ensure that any material you post that is not your own is either free of copyright or that you have received permission from the copyright holder to reproduce the material for these purposes. Verity cannot be held responsible for any copyright infringement by individuals on the Discussion Board

11. When posting material on the Discussion Board, you are responsible for ensuring that all such material is free of any libellous or discriminatory statements of any form. Verity cannot be held responsible for any such statements made by individuals on the Discussion Board. The Trustees reserve the right to forward the contents to the appropriate professionals if any illegal activity is discussed on the Discussion Board

12. Please do not use the Verity Discussion Board for promotion (self or otherwise); for example, advertisements for treatments you found useful, professional services, products, etc. or repeated promotion of other websites/blogs/networks, etc. We welcome collaboration with other networks, but not a series of links to them without direct relevance to the discussion. If you have a reasonable cause for promotion or would like to raise awareness in some form, please contact the Verity team to discuss this (

In the unfortunate event of any member abusing the Discussion Board in any of the ways set out above, Verity reserves the right to remove or edit postings. If members continue to behave in an unsuitable manner, they will receive notification of this via a written warning, after which if the behaviour continues, they will banned from future participation in the Discussion Board community. Depending on the severity of the circumstances, Verity members may find their membership revoked indefinitely. Decisions concerning what action should be taken is at the sole discretion of Verity’s Board of Trustees.

All issues or complaints regarding messages or threads posted on the Discussion Board should be referred to the moderating team (

The Discussion Board is a public forum and Verity does not guarantee privacy or anonymity with regard to anything posted on or via this message board. Verity is not liable for any detriment suffered by any individual through reliance on any material on the Discussion Board.

* Verity will consider the removal of personal information that you may post, but this is not guaranteed. We would urge you not to post personal information in the first place
