Contraception Advice Please

Postby leoni_91 » Wed Sep 09, 2015 11:32 am

Hi, I just want to apologise for the length and ramble of this post. :) x

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 18 after suffering for years bouncing from one GP to the next with extremely heavy but regular and painful periods as a teen. I was advised after a few years of trying various pills to have the implant for 3 years, which worked great, no periods pain or problems. It was removed in early 2012 and I instantly began TTC with my long-term partner, unsuccessfully. After begging to be referred to the hospital, I finally managed to get the GP to agree to write a letter, sadly in the mean time, the stress of TTC for so long, emotional barriers my relationship broke down. Attending the GP for a different reason, it was noted that I was now single and without anyone even asking me, another letter was sent to the hospital to disregard their previous request.

I have asked my GP for advice on how best to proceed and he is at a loss. I don't think he truly understands PCOS. I am not currently taking any medication even though I have asked to be put onto metformin or something similar. I have also asked numerous times to be referred to someone more specialist than a GP but no one will. I need help!

I am at a total loss with where I stand or what to do now. I feel like I am ready to start dating again, but want to protect myself from an unwanted pregnancy but at the same time I don't want to limit or reduce any chances for in the future. I was advised by a GP that the implant should never have been offered to me because of my PCOS and the long lasting issues it has. Is this true? If I start taking the pill again will this effect/decrease any future chances of falling pregnant later on in life??

Any Advice is much appreciated!
