Hello Jo. Just seen your post on swollen feet & ankles. Are they very swollen or just puffy?Don't know if my experience will be of any help to you. I've had swollen ankles for years (also had PCOS for years too). Each doc I've seen has told me to sit with my feet up.It's made no difference. Finally saw a vascular specialist this year, who diagnosed Lymphoedema. There is no treatment just keep it under control. I saw a vascular nurse who suggested compression bandaging 3 times a week. This brought the swelling down dramatically which then led on to compression stockings. But I couldn't cope with them so my feet & ankles are as bad as ever.I live in trousers. I've never connected PCOS with swollen feet&ankles, but I think I read somewhere that it was a symptom. I'm seeing an endocrinologist in July and as I have about 10 other symptoms of PCOS one more won't make any difference!!!I shall ask him if there is a connection. It will be interesting to see if anyone else comments on this.

I suffer from this as well especially since starting blood pressure tablets, I have always had puffy feat and ankles since puberty but it has worsened in the last 18 months.
29 yrs old & fate has made its choice, life's a ..., it just comes around, you can't control fate. Thanks to no GP/specialist help for PCOS, 10 yrs on left infertile.

Hi Everyone

I am really interested in the post, as I also suffer from swollen ankles and feet. It is so annoying because I have trouble finding shoes to fit my feet.

To everyone who has swollen feet, and ankles, do they stay always stay swollen all of the time or does it sort of go away and come back, also are you overweight?

Sorry for all of the questions I am just interested in what people have to say, I am sure that the reason why my feet and ankles are swollen is because I am very overweight. I have not told my dr about this problem because I feel like a fraud with all the health problems I have been suffering with and they will probably blame the weight anyway.

Many Thanks

Sorry me again, I thought I would show you a pic of the problem that I have got with my ankles.

The 1st pic shows my right leg crossed over my left, and the other pic shows my right ankle whilst standing up

Not sure of what to do really, I have this problem all of the time , day or night, even in the morning after I get up out of bed.

Sorry if these pics offend anyone, I just wanted to show you the problems I have.

I have the same at the moment, i'd suggest going to your doc. I have been given some duiretic's to ease the problem which seems to just happen and stay for a while until I take the tablets. Like you, they are swollen whatever time of day and putting them up doesn't make a difference.

Now it's summer, I live in flip flops.

I'd def go to see your doc to talk about it.

Many Thanks for your reply, so it has taken so long. I have a lot of things to deal with at the moment.

I did go to the Dr regarding my feet/ankles, also they have started to hurt, all what the Dr said was to loose weight and rub some ibuprofen gel onto the area.

My left foot and ankle have been swollen on and off for the past year or so. I had just put in down to injuries - I had tendonitis in that foot, then a nasty sprain and I've had plantar fasciitis since the beginning of the year. Although the injuries have been painful I do sometimes get the swelling without any pain so I'm wondering if there's some other reason for it. Do any of you get swelling in just one ankle/foot or is it always both?

BB Do you mean me?, my left ankle is swollen the most, my right ankle is slightly swollen. You can see in the pictures I put up, they are like that all of the time, night day, hot weather, cold weather.

hey all.

i dont know if this will help, as ive been diagnosed with NO PCOS now. Since trying a YEAST and SUGAR FREE diet, i havent had any swollen ankles and the pain i have been in, has eased considerably.

Maybe this is worth giving a go for you guys??

SHYGIRLAJB - thats what my feet and ankles looked like!!!

Hi Misunderstood,

Sorry to hear about your lymphodoema. I'm having a lot of trouble with swollen legs at the moment. My GP didn't have a clue what could be causing the problem, and I have since had various tests at the hospital, none of which seem to be shedding light on the situation.

Did you have a pitting oedema and did you have very painful legs? I was originally diagnosed with compartment syndrome at the Sports Injury Clinic because of the pain, and now can barely walk because of it.

I'd be very grateful to hear more about your experience.

Well h_b, I still have swollen feet and ankles. I can't say i have heard of Compartment Syndrome. I have lymphoedema (as opposed to oedema). It doesn't pit on pressure, nor is there much difference from morning to evening, I attended a vascular clinic where I was put in compression stockings. They were a great success, After a week I could see my ankle bones for the first time in years!!! However ,the problem arose when the vascular nurse gave me compression stockings. I couldn't use them. They were extremely tight and I found it impossible to get them on. The nurse wasn't best pleased as the bandaging had been so successful. I cancelled a few appointments and she wrote to me,more or less saying that it was the only treatment. I've now received a letter to see the vascular specialist in October. My ankles don't hurt, just feel very heavy and I can walk for miles. They look really awful and I have great difficulty getting footwear and am permanently in trousers. Hope this has been of some help to you. Incidentally,my GP didn't have a clue what was wrong, either!!!!
