Embarrassing 'onion like' odour...

Postby s_x » Mon Dec 23, 2013 7:49 pm

I don't know whether this is hormone based but just thought I'd make a post!

I have recently (few months or more) had a funny 'onion' smell down below... Which has become very embarrassing for me in all areas. I haven't a clue what has caused this horrible smell!
I'm hygienic, use special soap free feminine washes, drink probiotic drinks, on probiotic vitamins, wear cotton knickers.. etc etc! Also tried rebalancing PH gels and creams to see if they help (like BioFem and Balance Active gel) Just can't figure out what is wrong with me. The smell happens at the most intimate times, which is the really embarrassing problem :( Luckily my long term boyfriend understands and doesn't mind.

I'm starting to think its sweat related, I seem to have quite a few night sweats lately (which is rather worrying...) I'm 21 and hopefully not on some strange premature menopause :S

I do have PCOS, hirsitusm and imbalanced hormones. The smell is throughout my whole months cycle, but I can't really call it a period, as I don't really get periods. I went for over a year without one, until I went back on the pill. If I wasn't on the pill, I wouldn't have a period (I don't think...) I'm always late.

I have looked online about this smelly problem and a lot of women are complaining about it, but I haven't found a solution!

Really hope it will go away soon, it's really getting me down and self conscious (more self conscious than usual :( ) I've never had it before...

Have you done a food diary at all, I think certain food or combinations of food can affect the smell down below. I would be a bit wary of the wipes/creams for down below as it can affect the natural balance of things. Does your partner agree it smells different down below?

Yeah he agrees too, but he doesn't seem to mind. It's weird as it hasn't been as bad lately. Must be what I eat as I use ph balance gels/soaps

Or maybe it's sweat! Bit of a difficult one to understand really lol

You should look up a poem by Carol Anne Duffy called Valentine. Its famous for comparing the smell of lady bits to onion!

I dont think its really a problem, as lady parts are universally accepted to sometimes have a bit of an onion-like odour. Its pretty common. Everyone smells different!

I understand your concern though if its not your usual smell...have you tried the femfresh deodorant? I find they are good for downstairs sweating issues and it smells good too. But i reckon it is probably a diet related issue. Good luck !

Yeah I have used fem fresh in the past but prefer vagysil stuff now, as they apparantly have probiotics in their soaps.

Thought I'd post an update. Haven't had a problem since using condoms again! So looks like it wasn't me after all :) happy bunny

I too have noticed an onion/garlic like odour, always just assumed it's coming from my pores as I use onion and garlic in most of my meals!
