Too many issues :(

I think I have about every known symptom linked to pcos now and I'm sick of it! :(

I'm 24, was diagnosed when I was 12/13/14 ish. Was put on dianette and left to it, I got on with it as well i didn't know any different. My periods were regular, less hairy, spots got better, was overweight but healthy fit and active at school. Thought this pcos lark isn't bad. Then after going for a "pill check up" about 18 months ago my gp said my blood pressure was too high do took me off dianette as I'd been on it for too long really and with raised bp it wasn't good for me.

After coming off it, my periods became pretty non existent for a year, odd spotting once a month if that, weight ballooned (even when I was a member of the gym I lost 7 lbs then nothing more which was so disheartening considering the effort I put in ) I lost my libedo, I'm constantly tired, I got hairier in places u was hairy (arms, legs, abdomen) and got more hair in places I didn't (chest, more on face, shoulders, back, arms) my acne came back with a vengeance (roaccutane sorted it) my hair has started falling out loads when I wash it or brush it) now my periods have returned, lasting more like 4/5 weeks on to a few days off. I went to my gp (new one as I moved areas) he sent me for blood tests to check to see if I had any underlying issues (diabetes, thyroid issues, etc) all came back ok, (by this time I'd had one extremely heavy period for me (3 days of changing protection every 2 hours at least) so he put me back on dianette (as my bp was normal apparently) I was on an extended period at the time so he told me to start taking it, I did and came off, 3 weeks on it and normal dry weeks, come off for my week break, light nice period for 4 days, then started getting heavier Sunday, Monday I took 1st pill of next pack but Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday and Saturday I'm been REALLY heavy (tampon and towel needing to change every hour or so and even still leaking. I'm worried about this now plus im peeved off with it, I'm panicing incase I flood through, passing clots and it's been going in nearly a week now :(

Why don't any gps seem to care about women with pcos, only ever been offered dianette to help, have been told to lose weight as that'll help ( yeah, I know, but with pcos I'm finding that nay on impossible!!!!) asked for help with lising weight....nothing. I've asked for help with getting rid of excess hair on face and chest....nothing. I'm fed up with these awful periods and the whole pcos thing. I feel my doctors don't take me seriously and realise how much this effects me both visibly and in my head.

I don't feel"normal" or like a woman, I feel like I exist in life and I'm not enjoying it one bit. Can anyone suggest anything that might help me? Im really at my wits end now :([/list]

Hi there

I have been suffering with PCOS since I was 19, but it has only been in last yr that GP has decided to do sumthin and thats cos i hav been houndin him. He put me on Dianette last yr, but it made me suicidal so i had to stop takin it. Then he left me to it. My hair growth took on a world of its own and i now have it in places i didnt before. I am now pluckin or shavin everyday just to feel presentable enough to leave the house!!

I returned to GP last month and insisted he do sumthin about the hair growth as i am currently 29 goin on 89, and id rather b lookin 4ward to my 30s than dreadin it! He referred me to specialist at hosp and thats where i went today. Specialist has suggested i try Vaniqa cream and i have to have a 72 hr fastin test in hosp to determine a separate prob with my blood sugar levels which could be linked to PCOS. He said if that test comes back ok i cud try Metformin.

I have periods every 7-9 wks and when they arrive they are just like you describe, I can change pads every 2 hrs for a 9 day stretch b4 it eases off. I feel totally rubbish for the duration of my monthly and i hate it so i can understand how u feel. I really think u need to go bak to GP and tell him u want sumthin doin about monthly and haor growth. If you tell him how its affectin u emotionally and confidence wise, he may well refer u to a specialist - to b fair to GPs, they no a little about a lot of things, u need a specialist who knows wot ur talkin about.

I hope my post has shown ur nt alone, and mayb given u sum food for thought on poss medications ur dr cud try for hair growth. Keep me posted with how u get on. xxxx

I'm going back to the docs on tue about my periods. I'm seeing a different gp so fingers crossed i might get a different response. I need some breaks in my period to be able to exercise to lose some weight to help matters.
Thanks for your comments, have helped boost the confidence!

Losing weight can help but doesnt always!! They use that as a bit of a cop out I think!!

Luckily on that front I'm not prone to period pains.. Although this month I've had more uncomfiness with it that normal, occasionally stabbing pain, very dull ache, but nothing near your extent Hun. I feel for you. Why do we have to put up with feeling crap during our time of the month?

As for losing weight... I'd love to. It is a cop out by docs. Last year I made a stand I joined a gym, did swimming, was doing a mixture of the 2 3/4 times a week, was eating healthy... 1st couple of weeks lost 6 lbs then the rest of the 6 month contract with the gym I lost 1lb... I lost motivation fast and stopped. I was doing wii fit in-between as well... Yet nothing shift... I went to the drs explained I knew it we difficult to lose weight with pcos but explained what I'd done, and how lil difference it made asked if there was any help he could give me... Offered to send me to a dietician to see if could help that way, I agreed... Referral never happened... I lost faith in another dr. I've tried salads, weight watchers meals, counting calories, drinking water, no snacking, more fruit n veg, no crap yet not found anything to help. Has anyone tried any diets that worked for them? Even if it was just slow steady weight loss? Consistent weight loss?

Hey
OMG your so lucky with the hardly any pain thing, seriously over having to take time off every single month, I swear everyone at works thinks im just skiving off. I finish my current Job in two weeks, I had to call in sick today as i cannot even move its so painful and I get a text from my boss telling me as Im on leave they dont pay sick??? this is a joke, they know I have PCOS and I cant just turn the pain off because im on my notice at work! GRRRR its so frustrating :x
in regards to the diet, i guess im a little lucky on that front, i wouldn't class myself as under weight or over weight, however it is always at the front of my mind that if you put on weight its very difficult to shift, i do some yoga and try to follow a good diet. I have switched from using normal sugar to fruit sugar (you can get it in Holland and barret) taste the same but its better for the body, have you tried spinning? that burns over 500 calories per session?? I also don't eat read meat (hence the B12 deficient) perhaps cut this down to once a week as it is fatty but you don't wanna become B12 deficient like me so still eat it once a week! I have also changed all veg/fruit and anything else I can afford to organic (except meat as this is way to expensive for me :-( hope this helps....

Bless you! I can't imagine being in so much pain, can you dr not give you anything to ease it? How harsh of your job though.

I know what you mean. Organic is so expensive, being unemployed at the min it's not feasible but I will give all that a go when I can afford it!

I hope you feel better soon

I was told by a specialist that there were 2 types of pcos. The emotional type and the physical type. I was told i had the emotional type as my hormones were all over the place. Well i think the specialist was totally wrong as im experiencing alot of the symptoms that you ladies are describing. Im currently taking yasmin and on my 7 day break. I usually start the day i start my 7 day break but its taken for days for it to start this time. Ive got crippling back pain and breast pain. I am also really heavy and dont know what to do. I go camping to a festival on thursday morning and was looking forward to it but now because of the pcos and being on im dreading it. Help.

Hi guys,

Well the date for my 72 hr fast is approachin, i go in on the 8th aug. I am nervous and excited at the same time, which is strangely odd! I am nervous about not eating for 3 days as my blood sugars play havoc and i know i am going to feel truly awful until im allowed to eat again - but im excited as it just might mean they will put me on metformin which dr says will help with my weight loss.

I am happy to say the Vaniqa cream he started me on 2 months ago is starting to have an effect and im not having to pluck quite so much, altho i stil do it every day - force of habit i think!

How are you gettin on Crouchy? Did you return to GP and if so what did he suggest??
