Insulin resistance and thrush?? (tmi - sorry!)

Postby Beanicle » Mon Jan 09, 2012 8:09 pm

Hello ladies

I get thrush quite often :o( I know all about treating partner etc so I am not reinfecting my self (is reinfecting the right word for thrush? Probably not but you know what I mean).

When I was ttc I was put on metformin. The whole time I was taking it I didn't get thrush once. When I stopped it came back.

So is recurring thrush something which could be caused by insulin resistance? Or is it just coincidence that I didn't have thrush all the time I was taking met?

If it is is a symptom of insulin resistance should I be checked for this as I haven't been before.

Thank you :D

Hi

I'm insulin resistant and I have never had thrush before and I've never heard of it being linked either.

I've just tried googling it and couldn't find any info

So, I'm guessing it's just a coincidence you didn't get it when on met

xx

Ohhh hang on I've found something! I was wrong lol

A study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has found that women suffering from recurrent vaginal thrush tend to have an impaired glucose tolerance

It may be linked!

Yes there is alink according to our endocrinologists between diabetes and thrush which could be why metformin seems to have controlled it better. I would ask to be checked for IR when you next see your GP.

Hi,

I am insulin resistant and recently I stopped taking my metformin to try to control with diet alone I had thrush twice and had severe itching around my genitals.

My Doctor said that both of these are symptoms of both IR and diabetes - he also told me off for stopping my metformin. I started taking it and within 5 days the itching has almost stopped.

I would speak to your doctor and mention it.
Trying to get BMI to 35 so I can have Clomid

I am new to this forum and recently diagnised with PCOS. I have been doing lot of search on internet and came across " d-chiro inositol" Which seems to alleviate the symptoms of PCOS. Has anyone heard about it?????
