Hi Ladies

I am new to this site today, and have been reading all your stories which offer some support, knowing im not alone!

Quick history:- Age 14 put on combined pill for heavy irratic bleeding. Hav had hair on top lip since i was a teenager. Suffered PND and PMS, and I had an internal scan 8 months ago showing cysts. I had another scan a few months back as part of a student training at the hospital I work at, this also showed PCOS.
The main thing for me is the eating problem... I feel i need to eat every 2 or 3 hours. I get a very full head feeling, shaky, runs, in a "Zombie" like state, dont wanna talk or move its vile!! I have 2 children 10 and 3 so cant be in zombie mode. Please could anyone shed some light as to what I do next?/ Do I see an Endocrinologist or Gynea? Does these symptoms sound like IR? Please please help, I feel desperate!!! Thank you in advance. Clare

Yep it sounds very much like Insulin Resistance, your gp can check that out for you and also make sure that you do not have diabetes. Try a low GI diet and either 6 small meals a day or 3 with a snack in between to keep your blood sugar level .Cut out as much sugar as you can. If your GP confirms IR then treatment with Metformin will probably help. It might be a good thing to keep off alcohol for a bit until you feel better. hope this helps. Ann

Hi Ann

Thank yo so much for your reply. I really do need to sort this out as its getting worse.
I do suffer with PMS so I see a professor in gyneacology in London. At present I take Oestrogel and Testgel
And Norethisterone one a month for 7 days which sends me back to PMS mode! I presume I have PCOS, never been officially
Diagnosed, although 2 scans have revealed multiple follicles/fluid sacks. Does PMS come from PCOS??

I need to find a specialist endo in Bham area if anyone can advise that would be great! Also what tests do
I ask for from GP? Sorry for the questions but I know very little about this illness so feel quite alone.

Your help and guidance is greatly appreciated. Xxxx

If you have a look at the Local Groups thread you might be able to find someone from the Birmingham area who can tell you about your local Endos. Your Gynae in London should be able to confirm your PCOS diagnosis. Having cysts on your ovaries means that you have PCO, PCOS is when you also have other symptoms which you seem to have. I'm not sure about PMS but perhaps some of the other ladies will know. There is a lot to get your head round, so take your time, eventually it will all gel. As you are finding there is loads of info on this site but if you can't find what you need just ask. Ann
